Project Description

Windermere, Cumbria
2000-2003
Oak House is a new-build, family house in Windermere. The house is situated on a sloping site that has been excavated to maximize the size of the building. Five bedrooms are located on the Lower Ground Floor along with a garage. The open plan kitchen, dining and living room is on the Upper Ground Floor, providing a light and airy space with elevated views of the lake and fells to the West. At the East end the room opens onto a large deck and the garden. The design focused on providing simple, uncluttered spaces with a limited palette of materials of white painted walls, oak boards, travertine tiles and stainless steel ironmongery and fittings. The house was constructed as a self-build project.
